Arranging a suitable daycare or school is one of the most important things when your employee moves with children. The question what is suitable differs per situation, our educational expert advises on the specific situation.

It might be interesting for your employee to consider a local school if the labour contract is for an indefinite period. The children will have to learn Dutch anyway, and Dutch schools offer quality education, safety and local friends who generally stay around. Depending on age of the children a switch year in which they learn Dutch might be required.
If your employee’s move to the Netherlands is one in a series of international assignments, we recommend to place the children in an international school or to a foreign (US/British/French/Japanese/German) school here.

Factors that your employee should consider when choosing the type of school are:
How long they plan to live in the Netherlands.
How much they want their family to become a part of the local Dutch community.
The preferred location and proximity to various different types of schools.
The children’s scholastic and language aptitude.
If already applicable; whether, and where, the children want to study after completing secondary school.

It’s difficult to give a general answer to this question as it depends on type of school, the grade and the child involved. Our educational expert always has a current overview of availability. Should there be no place at the preferenced school we will advise on good alternatives.
