
What is a DigiD and how do I get it?

Digid stands for Digital Identification and is a sort of online ID that you use for your online communication with the Dutch government and some other organizations that hold information about you. Your DigiD confirms your identity to the Dutch government. You will have to create your own DigiD to have access to websites like the Tax Authorities, banks, but also your pension fund and your health insurance.
– Your BSN, citizen service number, that you’ve received after your registration with a Dutch municipality
– Registered address with a Dutch municipality
– Mobile phone (for verification)
1) Go to the official DigiD website: https://www.digid.nl/en.
2) Choose to apply via the application form or the DigiD app.
3) Fill in your personal details, including your BSN and mobile number.
4) After submitting the application, you’ll receive a letter with an activation code at your registered address within 3 business days.
5) Use this code to activate your DigiD online.
You can apply for the Digid after your registration in the Netherlands. We advise to get the Digid as soon as possible, you need it in many instances.
