Over the past couple of months, the Dutch immigration authorities IND and UWV have implemented changes for short term assignees and interns, apprentices, but also assignees who apply for single work permits. In fact, the law has been in place since 2018, yet its application is now way stricter than ever. (both non EU).
What are the changes for short term assignees and interns?
As per the Dutch Immigration Law, employers have to provide accommodation for certain visa applications, including but not limited to short term and intern applications. So far, the law was rather lenient, meaning that a statement that accommodation would be provided was enough to get approval without any issue. That has changed, with the IND and UWV now demanding proof of proper accommodation for non EU short term assignees and interns.
What do the changes mean for my company?
This means that, if you want to work with short term assignees, interns, apprentices, and/or assignees who apply for single work permits, you will have to take your accommodation responsibility seriously. You can do this by making arrangements with a holiday park, a hotel, an Airbnb, or any other short term accommodation provider.
You can also ask Anywr Netherlands to assist your employees with finding temporary accommodation. Our flexibility and customer-centric attitude allows for customization of our services to get them closer to your needs.
Over the past weeks, we have witnessed applications being rejected solely because accommodation was not secured before the time of the permit request! You wouldn’t want to receive similar news now, would you?
